Gemini Energy: The Design That Started It All

Gemini Energy: The Design That Started It All

The idea I had for Gemini came in an instant.  I knew exactly how I wanted this to look. I am absolutely obsessed with 80s and 90s films from my childhood, and The NeverEnding Story is one I watched hundreds and hundreds of times. I’m always trying to force it onto my kids, but they’re just not interested!!!

(Also, as a side note, I heard they’re doing a remake, which I’m curious about but also a bit sad about.)

But anyway, these are obviously based on the gates that Atreyu has to go through, and it’s basically a NeverEnding Story Barbie mash-up. I was also going to try and throw in a kind of Leeloo 5th element vibe to the girls here, but I thought it might be a bit too much, even for me.

I did some research into the meaning behind Gemini, and the twins actually have names, which was something new I learned - they’re called Castor and Pollux, so they both have a little C and P tattoo here.

The four lines underneath are to represent their element, which is air, and the most recognised elemental symbol is included as well. The three dots inside represent that Gemini is the third sign of the zodiac.

I love bringing those smaller hidden symbolic details in, even if people don’t notice them.

But yeah, this one as a concept was really clear to me from the start. The only thing I really faffed about with was the wings, and ended up redrawing this to a more simplified style than my first attempt.

According to Pinterest, this colour palette is true to the Gemini sign?!

In the end, I think keeping it quite clean but still slightly surreal worked better, especially for something that’s going onto a t-shirt.

I hope you like it on the natural raw 100% organic cotton base.
