This one was easy in the sense that I knew what I wanted the design to be like, but because I am a Sagittarius, I really overthought it. I kept thinking, “Would I wear it?” and then it made me doubt the rest of the collection too, because I started thinking, who would actually wear any of these weird designs like uterus crabs etc.
I think this was one of those classic moments where the closer you get to finishing something, the more you start questioning everything about it.
For my fellow Fantasia fans she is obviously based on the beautiful Centaurettes. I have so many fond memories of watching the movie as a child, so many dance routines, and the sequence to The Planets by Holtz, which is honestly really intense for like 7-year-olds, but I absolutely loved that symphony. Still do. Would LOVE to see us doing those dance routines again, anyway, I digress.
She also has a nod to My Little Pony with the tattoos on her butt, which are also loosely inspired by Lucky Charms. Sagittarians are often associated with luck, and I was just obsessed with those as a kid, I can literally still remember eating them and what they taste like. This design is basically reliving my childhood joy!
My favourite Centaurette in Fantasia was always the blue one, so the blues and purples in her hair are kind of a reference to that. Purple is also a colour strongly associated with Sagittarius. I'm actually not too keen on purple but really like these pastel shades with pink and blues.
We also have nine dots on the bow to represent the ninth sign in the zodiac, along with the fire element symbols. The Sagittarius constellation is really beautful and I tried for ages to incorporate it somehow but sadly let it go in the end. However it did leave it feeling like something was missing so in came the signs ruling planet Jupiter, which I really loved. (And nice swing back to the whole Holtz thing!)
Also added the four moons to represent Jupiters 4 main moons - Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto. I love this design, love being a Sagittarius and will be wearing this with pride!
Still don't know how to spell Sagittarius without checking - but pretty sure that's right lol.
